Karachi – At least seven individuals sustained injuries after a factory building collapsed following a massive fire in the Landhi Export Processing Zone (EPZ) on Thursday, according to the Edhi Foundation’s information department.

The incident occurred near Check Post 5, where a garment factory caught fire, which then spread to three adjacent buildings, prompting a large-scale evacuation. Rescue teams, including multiple fire brigades, rushed to the scene to control the blaze and prevent further damage.

Emergency response officials confirmed that the injured were evacuated using emergency stairs and a construction lift, and were transported to a nearby hospital via Edhi ambulances.

According to Aaj News, five firefighters also sustained injuries during the rescue operation due to the intensity of the fire and falling debris. Rescue 1122 later confirmed that the fire had been extinguished after several hours of efforts, and a cooling process was underway to avoid any reignition.

Authorities reported thick smoke billowing from the affected buildings during the operation. Rescue workers faced challenges due to high temperatures, limited visibility, and the risk of further structural collapse.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and officials are expected to launch an investigation.

This incident follows a similar fire in the Landhi EPZ on June 8, which took more than 36 hours to extinguish. That fire destroyed four industrial units and left five people injured.

Investigation Underway

Officials have yet to determine whether safety protocols and fire prevention systems were in place. The frequent occurrence of industrial fires in Karachi has raised concerns regarding workplace safety measures, particularly in high-density manufacturing zones.
