Officials announced that the Punjab government’s flagship initiative for housing, Apni Chhat Apna Ghar has achieved a major milestone. They have distributed over Rs8.5 billion of interest-free loans in total to more than 9,500 individuals.
Overwhelming Response and Impressive Loan Disbursement
The initiative has garnered massive public interest, with over 400,000 applications and supporting documents submitted through the Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar portal in a short timeframe.
In Phase I, the program disbursed 5,000 loans, leading to several homes now nearing completion. Meanwhile, Phase II saw the issuance of 3,000 additional loans, with construction activities already underway.
To ensure fairness and accountability, applications undergo rigorous verification by three independent microfinance institutions. The government has set ambitious goals to construct 100,000 homes within one year and 500,000 homes in the next five years, following the directives of the Chief Minister.
How the Program Works
The program operates through an easy-to-access online portal, acag.punjab.gov.pk, where applicants can find all relevant information and submit their loan applications.
For additional support, a dedicated helpline (0800-09100) has been established, ensuring applicants can address queries and concerns with ease.
Under the scheme:
- Loans of up to Rs. 1.5 million are offered.
- Borrowers repay only the principal amount over nine years.
- Affordable monthly installments start at just Rs. 14,000.
Chief Minister’s Vision: A Home for Every Family
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has reiterated her unwavering commitment to eliminating homelessness in Punjab. “The state is like a mother, and its foremost responsibility is to provide shelter for its children.
